What Is Soft Tissue Therapy (STT)?
STT manipulates muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, bursae and nerves. It is used to warm up and relax the area by increasing blood and lymph circulation through a variety of techniques.
These include -
Effleurage: decreases firing of the sympathetic nervous system
Petrissage: relieves trigger points and breaks up adhesions
Fascial techniques: breaks up adhesions and scar tissue
Frictions: breaks up scar tissue and realigns collagen fibres in tendons
Tapotement: relieves hypertonic muscles
Vibrations: relieves hypertonic muscles, decreases hypersensitivity and helps with sensory re-education
