What Can Joint Mobs Actually Do For You?

Joint mobs are one of many techniques used in osteopathy. They help reduce stiffness and alleviate discomfort by gently restoring the joint's ROM. They work best when surrounding muscles are relaxed, and you breathe through the motion to enhance the effectiveness of the technique.

Common misconceptions about joint mobs:

1. "You need to hear a pop to feel better" - The goal is improved mobility tailored to each patient's needs; you may or may not hear a sound!

2. "It's painful" - They should be gentle and within your comfort range (see previous post - What are joint mobilisations?)

3. "You will have instant, permanent relief" - While you may experience immediate improvements, lasting results typically require multiple sessions and home care

4. "You shouldn't move too much after a mob" - Movement is encouraged to reinforce mobility gains!

5. "Mobs are mainly for your back" - They are versatile and can be done on any joint in your body even the TMJ, hands and feet!
